Construction Worker Scholarship: Apply for 2 Million Won
The second-semester 2026 college scholarship for construction workers will select 150 recipients from workers and their children, providing 2 million won per person. Check the required retirement mutual aid contribution days and academic requirements for your application category, and submit and correct your documents by October 23 (South Korea).
- Check the required retirement mutual aid contribution days and reasons for exclusion for the worker or child application category.
- Check the credits earned and grades from your most recent regular semester, and prepare your student aid bracket notice for the second semester of 2026.
- Obtain supporting documents as instructed in the mutual aid association's notice, and enter the applicant's and student's payment account details separately.
- Apply by October 23, 2026, through official channels such as 건설e음 or a mutual aid association branch or center.
- Check for missing documents and complete any corrections by the same deadline.
Construction workers who are university students, and university-student children of construction workers, should check their eligibility and apply for the scholarship. Applications and supporting documents must be submitted by October 23, 2026. Applications are accepted through 건설e음 or at the mutual aid association’s branches and centers. Those selected will receive 2 million won each.
The amount and eligibility requirements are based on the September 28, 2026 press release and the association’s semester 2 notice.
How to apply for the scholarship
Choose your application type, prepare the supporting documents, and submit them through an official application channel.
- Choose whether you are applying as the construction worker or as the worker’s child. Check both the total number of retirement mutual aid contribution days and the number of recent contribution days.
- Confirm your enrollment status and grades from the previous regular semester. You will also need your student aid bracket notice for semester 2 of 2026.
- Find the university student scholarship in the welfare service application guide on 건설e음. Prepare your documents according to the notice and document review criteria.
- Apply through 건설e음 or a branch or center. The application period runs from September 28 to October 23, 2026.
- After applying, check for missing documents and requests for corrections. Any corrections must also be completed by October 23.
The official online route is the welfare services menu on 건설e음. The welfare service application guide linked below is a page for checking the announcement and forms, not a direct link to the online application screen. Select the university student scholarship in the 건설e음 welfare service application guide.
Contribution-day requirements for workers and children
The retirement mutual aid contribution-day requirements differ for workers applying for themselves and those applying for their children. Both the total and recent contribution-day requirements must be met. Do not estimate them from time spent working on construction sites. Check the association’s records.
| Application type for semester 2 of 2026 | Total contribution days | Contribution days in the previous year or previous 12 months | Person whose record is checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Construction worker who is a university student | At least 85 days | At least 85 days | The student |
| University-student child of a construction worker | At least 252 days | At least 100 days | Father or mother |
For a child’s application, the same parent must meet both contribution-day requirements. You cannot combine the father’s total contribution days with the mother’s recent contribution days. To check contribution records, call the association’s contribution-day inquiry line at 1666-1133.
Credits, grades, and exclusions
The student must have completed at least 12 credits in the previous regular semester. Their score must be at least 80 on a 100-point scale. Eligible schools are four-year universities and junior colleges in South Korea. A South Korean nationality requirement also applies.
| Item to check | When an applicant is ineligible |
|---|---|
| Grades from the previous regular semester | New or transfer students who have no such grades |
| Type of school | Advanced major colleges, graduate universities, distance-learning universities, technical colleges, lifelong education centers, and foreign universities |
| Enrollment status | Students beyond the standard number of semesters or whose studies have been interrupted by a leave of absence, military enlistment, or another reason |
| Retirement mutual aid benefit | The benefit has already been paid or is being claimed as of the application date |
Broadcasting and correspondence universities and cyber universities fall under the distance-learning university exclusion. Summer and winter session grades are not accepted. Ask the association whether grades from a school attended before transferring can be accepted. Do not assume that a certificate of enrollment alone establishes that the academic requirements have been met.
Documents to submit for workers and children
Prepare the common documents and, for a child’s application, the additional documents. Submitted documents are valid only if issued within 3 months of the application date. Only a student aid bracket notice for semester 2 of 2026 is accepted.
| Document | Worker application | Child application | Preparation requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| University student scholarship application | Required | Required | Separate submission is unnecessary when applying through 건설e음 |
| Notice on the collection and use of construction workers’ personal information | Required | Required | Attach the association’s form as provided |
| Child’s consent form for the collection and use of personal information | Not applicable | Required | Check the consent indication and handwritten signature |
| Family relationship certificate | Not applicable | Required | Confirm the worker-child relationship; conceal the last digits of resident registration numbers |
| Student aid bracket notice | Required | Required | Issued by the Korea Student Aid Foundation; check the semester |
| Academic transcript | Required | Required | PDF electronic certificate issued by the school |
| Certificate of enrollment | Required | Required | PDF electronic certificate issued by the school |
The construction worker personal information notice has no fields to fill in or sign. The instructions require the form itself to be attached so its contents can be reviewed. The child’s consent form must be signed separately. Follow the association’s document review criteria for detailed format requirements.
Common document-submission mistakes
Even if you have the right documents, an incorrect issue format or signature will require a correction.
- Do not submit only photographs of your transcript and enrollment certificate. The review criteria require PDF electronic certificates that can be verified as authentic.
- Check the issue number and issue date on the student aid bracket notice. Remove any password from the file.
- Avoid a screen-view copy of the family relationship certificate without an issue number or official seal. For documents in an electronic document wallet, check that the number and seal are visible.
- Typing the child’s name or pasting an image of a stamp is not accepted as a signature. A handwritten electronic signature or a scan of a handwritten signature is accepted.
You cannot apply without a student aid bracket notice. The association’s FAQ makes no exception for reasons such as not applying for a national scholarship. Checking whether you can obtain the notice first will help you decide which documents to prepare first.
Applicant and payment account holder
For a child’s scholarship, the applicant named on the application is the construction worker. Enter the student’s details in the scholarship recipient section. The payment account must be in the student’s own name.
| Form field | How to complete it for a child’s application |
|---|---|
| Applicant | The construction worker who meets the eligibility requirements |
| Recipient | The university-student child who will receive the scholarship |
| Applicant’s signature | The construction worker’s signature or seal |
| Child’s consent form | The child’s consent and handwritten signature |
| Payment account | A usable account in the student’s own name |
Do not enter a parent’s account as the student’s payment account. The application states that an account protected from seizure cannot be used. There is no need to add a copy of the bankbook as a separate required document. Enter the account information in the fields provided on the association’s application form.
Application methods and deadline for corrections
You can apply online or through official channels including in person and by mail. Mailed applications are valid if postmarked by the post office on October 23, 2026, the deadline. Corrected documents must also be complete by that date.
| Application channel | Check before submitting |
|---|---|
| 건설e음 on PC or mobile | Whether a separate application form can be omitted and whether supporting files are attached |
| Visit to an association branch or center | The location listed in the notice and its application hours |
| The branch or center address and the deadline for the post office postmark | |
| Fax or email | The recipient listed in the notice and whether the submission was received |
The association’s “2026 Semester 2 Construction Worker University Student Scholarship Notice” states:
An application is considered complete only when the application form and all required documents have been received by the deadline.
Do not submit only the application form and miss the deadline by sending supporting documents later. The notice states that applications will be rejected if corrections are not completed by the deadline. Do not assume that the postmark exception also applies to fax or email. Contact the customer service center at 1666-1122 to check the submission destination and status.
Selection scores and priority for previous recipients
For semester 2 of 2026, 150 people will be selected across worker and child applications. Each selected person will receive 2 million won. The payment is study support intended to help with living expenses. Selection is not based solely on application order.
| Evaluation item | Points | What is evaluated |
|---|---|---|
| Student aid bracket | 50 points | The bracket determined by the Korea Student Aid Foundation |
| Previous semester’s grades | 50 points | The GPA earned, converted by dividing it by the university’s maximum GPA |
| Bonus points | Up to 5 points | Total retirement mutual aid contribution days and electronic card possession and usage record |
A score of 80 on a 100-point scale is an eligibility requirement. Grade points for selection use GPA, so keep the two figures distinct. Check the notice for the detailed point allocations. The selection criteria are also available in the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s September 28, 2026 press release.
New applicants and those who received the scholarship before December 31, 2025, receive priority. Recipients from semester 1 of 2026 are considered after them. They may not be selected, depending on the number of applicants and the budget.
Number of applicants from the same household
As a rule, support is limited to 1 person per household. This applies even when both a worker and their child qualify. If both parents meet the contribution requirements, there is an exception allowing up to 2 children.
However, the notice’s main text and attached FAQ differ in their explanations. The main text specifies an exception when both parents qualify. The attached FAQ says that only 1 parent may apply. If you plan to apply for 2 children, check the application procedure with the association.
Results and receiving other scholarships
Results are scheduled to be announced on November 11, 2026. They will be posted on the association’s website, and applicants will be contacted individually. The scholarship ceremony and payment are scheduled for December 2026. The schedule may change depending on operational circumstances.
- Other scholarships: The association allows recipients to receive this scholarship alongside national scholarships and others. Also check whether the other scholarship restricts receiving multiple awards.
- Ceremony: Attendance is mandatory if a ceremony is held. If you cannot attend, you must submit supporting documents and discuss it with the association in advance.
- Payment method: The association deposits the payment directly into an account in the student’s name. This differs from deducting the amount from a tuition bill.
FAQ
Can construction workers apply for themselves even if they do not have a child in college?
Construction workers who are college students can also apply for themselves. They must meet the credited-day and academic requirements for applicants applying for themselves.
Can I apply if I meet only the total credited-day requirement?
You must also meet the recent credited-day requirement. Applicants applying for themselves need at least 85 credited days in the previous year or the previous 12 months. For the child category, the parent must have at least 100 credited days over the same period.
Are all new and transfer students excluded?
The announcement excludes new and transfer students who have no grades from the previous regular semester. Do not decide based on admission status alone; check whether you have qualifying grades.
Can I include grades from a summer or winter session when applying?
Grades from summer or winter sessions are not accepted. Check the academic requirements using your grades from the previous regular semester.
If I do not have a student financial aid bracket notification, can I submit another document instead?
The mutual aid association's FAQ says you cannot apply without submitting the notification. Prepare the notification for the second semester of 2026.
If I apply through 건설e음, can I skip submitting all documents?
Only the separate scholarship application form is waived. You must submit the supporting documents required for your applicant category.
Can I submit photos of my transcript and certificate of enrollment?
The document review criteria require electronic certificates in PDF format. For in-person, mail, or fax submissions, check with the receiving office about how to submit them.
Can the scholarship be paid into a parent's bank account?
You need an active bank account in the student's name. The application form also says that a seizure-protected bank account cannot be used.
Can I correct deficiencies in my documents after the application deadline?
You must complete any corrections by October 23, 2026. The notice states that applications will be rejected if deficiencies are not corrected by the deadline.
Can someone who received the scholarship in the first semester of 2026 apply?
They can apply, but their application will receive lower priority in the review. They may not be selected, depending on the number of applicants and the budget.
Can I receive it along with the National Scholarship?
The mutual aid association allows you to receive both. Also check the restrictions for the other scholarship you plan to receive.
